Information we collect

When you register for an account, we collect your full name and email address. These details are stored in our user database and are used solely to authenticate you and personalise your experience within the application.

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google in accordance with your Google account permissions.

How we use your information

• To create and manage your account.
• To associate translation history with your account.
• To contact you regarding important service updates.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Usage data & analytics

To understand how the service is used and to plan improvements, we record aggregate usage information tied to your account, including the number of translations you perform (daily and lifetime totals), your daily activity, your assigned usage quota, and any glossary contributions you make (terms you submit or, for editors, terms you add or edit, with a timestamp).

This information is visible only to administrators in an internal analytics dashboard and is used to operate and improve the service. It is not sold or shared for marketing purposes.

Approximate location

When you sign in, we determine an approximate region (country, and where available a state or province) from your IP address. We do this so administrators can see, in aggregate, the regions our users come from.

To perform this lookup we send your IP address to a third-party geolocation provider (ipapi.co). We store only the resulting region; we do not store your IP address for this purpose, and the region is refreshed at most occasionally rather than tracked over time.

Data retention & deletion

Your account information is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at fgsihbcia@fgsihb.org.

Cookies & local storage

We use session cookies strictly necessary for authentication. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

Third-party services

Translation requests are processed via the Dharmamitra API. Text you submit for translation is sent to Dharmamitra's servers.

We use ipapi.co to derive your approximate region from your IP address at sign-in, as described under “Approximate location” above.

Permitted use

FoGuang AI is provided exclusively for Buddhist translation work in a non-profit context. Use of this application is limited to translating Buddhist canonical texts, Dharma teachings, institutional materials, and related content produced by or for Fo Guang Shan and affiliated non-profit organisations.

Commercial use, redistribution of outputs for profit, or use for any purpose unrelated to Buddhist education and non-profit activity is not permitted.

Account responsibilities

• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
• You must provide accurate registration information.
• You must not share your account with others or allow unauthorised access.

Accounts found to be in violation of these terms may be suspended or removed without notice.

Intellectual property

Translation outputs are intended to support the mission of Fo Guang Shan. You retain responsibility for ensuring that any source texts you submit are used in accordance with applicable copyright law.

Disclaimer of warranties

FoGuang AI is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. Translation outputs are AI-generated and should be reviewed by a qualified translator before publication. Fo Guang Shan accepts no liability for errors or omissions in translated content.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the application after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
